About the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation
What we do
The North & East Midlands Photographic Federation (N&EMPF) was originally founded in 1949 as N&EMPA then in April 1955 we were granted Federation status. N&EMPF is currently made up of 53 photographic clubs/societies primarily in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
It is one of fifteen area federations which make up the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB). Each club/society in N&EMPF pays a subscription to be a member of N&EMPF who then pay on a proportion of this to the PAGB. In return for their membership to the Federation, clubs/societies receive a number of benefits. |
N&EMPF organises a number of events each year
An Annual Exhibition with classes for individual entries of monochrome and colour prints and general and natural history projected digital images (PDIs), there are also classes for individual prints. Clubs compete for three trophies with four entries from separate workers within the club. (see previous trophy winners). The selected prints are displayed at a single venue during January each year (usually alternating between Mansfield and Eastwood). The selected PDIs are shown at the awards presentation on the opening day, and then copies are circulated around Federation clubs during January through March. The Federation usually selects its entry for the PAGB Print and PDI Competitions from the Exhibition.
The Club PDI Championship and Club Print Championship. In both competitions the top 8 clubs progress to a final round and the 2 top clubs will go forward to represent N&EMPF in the PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship (July) or PAGB Inter-Club Print Championship in November.
Audio Visual and Photo Harmony Competition. This was launched in 2018 and is usually held in March.
The Memorial Lecture. The Memorial Lecture was originally to commemorate the memory of Chris and Grace Newton but was extended to remember all members of the N&EMPF Executive who had passed on.
N&EMPF also
Publish a directory each year which lists all of the clubs with their meeting nights and secretaries addresses. The directory also includes the names and addresses of the Federation Executive and a listing of local or supplementary judges. The list of judges is in addition to the listings published in the PAGB Handbook which is published every two years. The directory also states the constitution of the Federation.
Publish a newsletter three times a year which has news and reports of Federation and PAGB events, updates of clubs, lecturers and judges information and articles related to photography in the federation.
Prepare recorded lectures for circulation around the clubs. In addition to the Exhibition PDIs, there are two slide Showcase Portfolios.
Provide Judges and Lecturers (published through the PAGB Handbook and Federation Directory).
