Sensitivity Guidelines and Safeguarding Policies
At the N&EMPF Executive Committee Meeting held on Saturday, 3rd September 2022 one of the items on the agenda was “Sensitivity Guidelines”. All committee members agreed that guidance should be given to Clubs within the Federation and their members concerning the showing of Images with content of a sensitive nature, i.e., depicting subject matter having the potential to cause offence to others. There is no intention to inhibit creativity, but with the changes in social attitudes, it was felt that action should be taken to address this matter.

The following proposals were made and voted for unanimously:
- When displaying photographs that contain subject matter which may be deemed to be of a sensitive nature (either as prints or in digital format) within a public or club setting, the following wording should be prominently displayed:
“PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS EXHIBITION/PRESENTATION MAY INCLUDE IMAGES OF A SENSITIVE NATURE, WHICH SOME PEOPLE MAY FIND UPSETTING”.
The viewer then has prior warning and can make an informed decision about whether the images in question are suitable for viewing, either by themselves or by children and other vulnerable individuals. - Affiliated Clubs sometimes find themselves in a position where Children and Vulnerable Individuals are welcomed as members or guests. In order to provide protection, it is recommended that all Clubs ensure that a safeguarding policy is in place to address this issue. We recognise that many Clubs already have their own Policy, but for those that don’t, suggested wording which can be used as is, or changed if deemed necessary, is included below.
