This Open competition is held each July and each federation each nominates 2 clubs to take part alongside the finalists from the previous year. This year it was online judging with an audience of over 200. The judges were Marilyn Roberts DPAGB BPE3, Gabriel O'Shaunessy FIFP MFIAP EFIAP/g and Leo Rich ARPS DPAGB EFIAP/G HonPAGB.
There were 37 clubs taking part and the 3 clubs who represented N&EMPF this year were Deepings CC, Newark & District PS and Rolls Royce Derby PS and they all did really well. After the qualifying rounds Newark & District were in 10th position, Deepings CC were 17th and Rolls Royce Derby PS in 1st place - taking them into the final round of 8 clubs. Rolls Royce Derby PS then went on to gain the 1st place in the final round, winning by 7 points, a remarkable achievement and the only time that a N&EMPF club has done this. Congratulations to all three clubs and to David Keep who won the Gold Medal for the best image in the competition with 'Reverse Pike'. A record 25 clubs took part, for which the Federation extends a big thank you for their support. 159 people signed in via Zoom, which is more than normally attend at Arnold. The competition was deliberately designed to be different from previous years so lacked the frantic choosing of images after Round 1 and the atmosphere in the Hall, but as nobody new the results there was still some tension.
We would like to thank the three judges: Jenny Hibbert (Wales), Peter Paterson (Scotland) and Glyn Edmunds (Hayling Island) who did an excellent job judging and scoring 16 images with maximum marks of 15. Glen was able to attend the showing of the images for which we were delighted. Congratulations to Rolls-Royce (Derby) PS for winning and to David Thompson (Bolsover CC) for getting the best individual award. More details can be found here. |
